St. Polten was dealt a harsh wake-up call on Thursday when they were destroyed 4-0 by Wolfsburg after advancing through the qualifying rounds.

When they went up by two goals against Roma, it appeared they would win the match and earn three points, but the Italian team fought back to win 4-3.

Maria Mikolajova’s 91st-minute winner for St Polten on matchday three gave the Austrian team all three points after what appeared to be a goalless draw in the away game against Slavia Prague.

St. Polten, who hadn’t played since defeating the Czech Republic team two weeks prior, now has four straight victories in all competitions.

They must win again on Thursday if they are to have a chance of narrowing the four-point gap between themselves and the top two.

Slavia Prague, meanwhile, has virtually no chance of making it past the group stage after earning zero points in all three of their games.

They were defeated 1-0 by Roma in their opening group game before falling 2-0 to Wolfsburg at home on matchday two.

The visitors on Thursday came within a few minutes of sharing the victory with Slavia Prague, but the narrow loss drops them to the bottom of the group.

Slavia Prague will view Thursday’s game as their best opportunity to earn a point over their remaining three group games, despite the fact that they are unlikely to advance to the knockout stages.

They will need to perform better than they did in Friday’s 2-1 Czech First League loss to Slovan Liberec if they want to avoid suffering their fourth straight defeat in the Champions League.
